Sustainability > EMAS
EMAS (Eco Management and Audit Scheme) focuses on continuous improvement of environmental performance by introducing an environmental management system, internal audits and drawing up an environmental report. Companies can take part in EMAS on a voluntary basis.
In Germany, the EMAS certificate is already widely recognised and acts as a kind of green logo. In the Netherlands, there is increasing interest in EMAS.
An important difference compared with the ISO 14001 norm is that EMAS emphasises the need for a proactive attitude. Employees should be actively involved in implementing the environmental management and audit system. Information should be made available from other parties and companies which have been awarded the EMAS certificate are expected to motivate clients and business partners to take measures to improve the environment.
